Abstract
Applying Pearlin(1981)`s `Stress Process Model` and reviewing previous researches, our researchers proposed the research model including the paths of the elderly stress to the suicidal ideation. The aim of this study was to examine the suitability of the research model and to test the direct effect and the mediated effects of stress mediators (social support and mastery) and the first stress response (depression), based on the survey data from 2,034 elderly in Chuncheon. The results of this study were as follows£ºThe research model fitted well to the elderly. Among the paths from the elderly`s stress to suicidal ideation, 3 paths were statistically significant. The physical pain increased to suicidal ideation directly. The poverty was found to increase to suicidal ideation indirectly through less financial support, and more depression. Moreover, the isolation was found to increase the suicidal ideation indirectly through less emotional support, less mastery and more depression. Therefore, the results contributed to suggest how to prevent on elder`s suicide.
